ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'tkinter' After quite a while I finally realized that I needed to install the python-tk package. On Linux all I needed to do was sudo apt-get install python3-tk.

  1. Sep 22, 2021 Tkinter is a Python binding to the Tk GUI toolkit. It is the standard Python interface to the Tk GUI toolkit, and is Python’s de-facto standard GUI. Installation: Method 1: Using pip to install Tkinter. Follow the below steps to install the Tkinter package on macOS using pip: Step 1: Install the latest Python3 in MacOS.
  2. Cd C:/Python/Scripts/ pip.exe install swampy. If you don't have pip, I recommend that you install it. There are instructions here. If you still don't have pip, you can download the Swampy zip file from the Cheese shop. Unzip it, then cd into the directory it creates and run: python setup.py install.

The following instructions are for Python 2. Swampy for Python 3is available (see the bottom of this page), but it is not supported.

Linux

Pip Install Tkinter Macbook

  1. Install Python

    To see if you already have Python, open a terminal(Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and type python on theLinux command line.You should see something like this:

    If so, you have Python. If the version number starts with2, you have Python 2, which is the version of Pythonused in Think Python. If the version number starts with 3,you have Python 3. You will not be able to use Swampy with Python 3.

    To install Python on Ubuntu, run

    Or use the Synaptic Package Manager to install 'python' and 'python-tk'.

    For other distributions, you can find instructions atpython.org. You shouldinstall the latest version of Python 2 (but anything after 2.4 shouldwork).

  2. Install Tkinter

    To see if you have Tkinter, type python on the Linux command line.Then at the Python prompt, type

  3. Install Swampy

    In that case, you have to install it. If you have pip installed,you can install swampy like this:

    If that doesn't work, or you don't have pip, you can downloadthe zip file from theCheese Shop and and unzip it. Cd into the directory it createsand run this command:

    If that doesn't work, try the instructions for installing packages from the Cheese Shophere.

    If you follow their instructions for Distutils, you might need to knowhow to 'extract the distribution.' Download the zip file. Make sureyou are in the directory where you downloaded the file and typeThen cd into the directory it creates:You have to replace the x's with the version number, or use tab-completionto avoid typing it.

    Finally, run the installer according to the instructionsin the tutorial.

Macintosh

  1. Install Python

    According to python.org,

    Python comes pre-installed on Mac OS X, but due to Apple's releasecycle, it's often one or even two years old. The overwhelmingrecommendation of the 'MacPython' community is to upgrade your Pythonby downloading and installing a newer version from the Python standardrelease page.
    Follow theseinstructions to install a current version of Python. You shouldinstall the latest version of Python 2 (but anything after 2.4 shouldwork).
  2. Install Tkinter

    To see if you have Tkinter, launch python;then at the Python prompt, type

  3. Install Swampy

    In that case, you have to install it. If you have pip installed,you can install Swampy in a command terminal like this:Or if that doesn't work, try:

  1. Install Python

    For instructions on running Python under Windows, seethe Python Windows FAQ.

    To run Python from the Command Prompt, you need to add the folder thatcontains Python to the list of folders Windows searches for commands.The name of the folder is probably C:Python26or C:Python27.

    To add this folder to the search path, select Control panel -> system-> advanced -> Environmental Variables -> system variables -> Path.Add C:Python26 or C:Python27 to the end of thelist (with a semi-colon as a separator).

    Now if you restart the command window, you should be able to typepython at the prompt and launch Python.

  2. Install Tkinter

    To see if you have Tkinter, launch python;then at the Python prompt, type

    Otherwise you will see something like this:

    In that case, you have to install Tkinter. You can download the ActiveTclCommunity Edition from ActiveState, which should provide Tkinter.If that doesn't work, there is more general information about Tkinterhere.

    To see if you have Swampy, launch python; thenat the Python prompt, typeIf you have Swampy, Python will not print anerror message and you are all set. Enjoy the book!

    If you still don't have pip, you can downloadthe Swampy zip file fromthe Cheese shop. Unzip it, then cd into the directory it createsand run:

    Again, launch Python and see if you canimport swampy.TurtleWorld. If so, you are all set. If not, let me knowwhat went wrong and I will continue to improve these instructions.

Python 3

Pip Install Tkinter Machine

Swampy for Python 3 is not available as a package. But the sourcecode is available in a zip file:

Pip install tkinter mac os

The simplest way to use this code is to unzip it in your homedirectory, cd into the unzipped directory and work there.Or you can put it any place you like, then addthe new directory to the Python search path.

Either way, youshould be able to import Swampy modules, but instead of specifying thepackage and module like this:You would just specify the module, like this:Swampy for Python 3 is relatively new, so please let me know ifyou run into problems.

Tkinter is a Python library used for creating and developing GUI-based applications. It is completely open-source which works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. In Windows operating system, we can install the Tkinter library using the command pip install tkinter. It will install all the other modules that come with Tkinter library. Tkinter can be installed on Jupyter notebook as well, by using the command pip install tkinter. We can run all the standard commands of Tkinter in Jupyter notebook.

Once we have installed Tkinter in Jupyter notebook, then we can verify the installation by typing the following command −

Now, after verifying the installation, you are ready to write your Tkinter application code in Jupyter notebook. For example, type the following code in Jupyter notebook and run the code by pressing 'Shift + Enter'.
